Mainframe Developer (Closed)

Mainframe Developers are responsible for the development, programming, and coding of Information Technology solutions within legacy environments. They will engage in all phases of the software development lifecycle which include: gathering and analyzing user/business system requirements, responding to outages and creating application system models. Developers are responsible for documenting detailed system specifications and will participate in evaluating, conducting performance testing, and all planned and unplanned maintenance for both internally developed applications and purchased products. Participate in design meetings and consult with clients to refine, test and debug programs to meet business needs and interact and sometimes direct third party partners in the achievement of business and technology initiatives. Developers are responsible for including IT Controls to protect the confidentiality, integrity, as well as availability of the application and data processed or output by the application.


Essential Functions:
• Codes and performs unit and integration testing of software to ensure proper and efficient execution and adherence to business and technical requirements
• Codes, tests, and debugs new software or makes enhancements to existing software
• Writes programs according to specifications from higher level staff or business analysts
• Develops technical documentation
• Resolves in a timely manner, problems that may arise with existing production applications, ensuring efficient/proper functioning of application components
• Collaborates with technical staff to learn and understand software problems
• Generates a variety of complex and periodic reports and/or data through database management, data administration and data extraction techniques
• Provides general system users and management with system analysis and feedback
• Influences system design by identifying and recommending design and requirements needs for software enhancements
• Maximizes the efficiency of the various software systems by implementing, monitoring, testing and auditing new software programs
• Follows established configuration/change control processes
• Performs impact analysis and feasibility for requested enhancements,
• Provide development and Maintenance of the ACAPS loan Origination's application, support a variety of batch interface jobs
• Monitor Batch jobs and On-line performance as part of on call rotation.
• Support daily user requests
• Perform preventive system maintenance
• Performance Tuning for COBOL and DB2 related slowing issues.

JOB REQUIREMENTS:
• Experience with DB2 performance tuning and analysis of systems for design work
• Experience writing stored procedures from scratch and fine tune the stored procedures
• Extensive DB2 experience on the applications side with the ability to rewrite programs, perform requirements analysis, turn technical specifications into technical specifications, and code
• Must have experience gathering/defining functional and technical specifications
• Excellent skills in project life cycle; analysis and design, development, Unit/System/User Test plan preparation and execution, and implementation
• Proficiency programming in Java
• Proficiency programming in mainframe applications; COBOL, JCL, CICS, SQL, DB2, MQSeries, and TSO
• Hands-on experience on batch and online-transaction-processing (OLTP) applications developed in CICS, Enterprise COBOL, DB2 SQL and Stored Procedures, JCL and VSAM and MQ Series and HTTP protocols on the IBM Mainframes OS/390
• Experience using Xpediter and FileAid tools is highly desired
• Experience with DB2 from the applications side, performing analysis, coding, and edits to rewrite existing programs and fine tune the stored procedures.
• Must have excellent oral and written communication skills

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
• Various Domain experience; Health Care, Financial, etc
• Experience using Agile, Waterfall, or hybrid methodology
• Specific tools, languages and specialty skills may vary

1. Strong knowledge of mainframe skills Cobol, JCL, DB2/SQL, IMS, Endevor and File Manager
2. Knowledge of the mainframe implementation process – change tickets, emergency changes
3. Ability effectively to communicate with team members, management and business users

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE:
3-5 years of IT development/programming/coding professional work experience within legacy development

REQUIRED EDUCATION:
Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science or Mathematics or relevant work experience
Relevant Development certifications
