Description:
- The System Engineer is viewed as a subject matter expert that is expected to translate application requirements into a thorough infrastructure design and helps drive the delivery and implementation of such infrastructure. This position is to support a large variety of efforts in the Consumer, Small Business & Wealth technology organization including business driven initiatives, Data Center exits, Not Permitted Technology remediation and others. The Candidate leads and/or participates in the design, development, and implementation of complex system engineering activities involving cross-functional technical support, hosting and data center capabilities. Responsible for components of highly complex engineering and/or analytical tasks and activities. Establishes input/output processes and working parameters for hardware/software compatibility, coordination of subsystems design, and integration of total system. Able to provide and communicate complex technology solutions across differing audiences including technical, managerial, business executives, and/or vendors. Is responsible for multiple, complex projects; directs activities of teams related to special initiatives or operations. Leads the resolution process for complex problems where analysis of situations or data requires an in-depth evaluation of various factors. Exercises judgment within broadly defined practices and policies in selecting methods, techniques, and evaluation criterion for obtaining results.
- Responsible for coordination and execution of engineering and technical aspects of each assigned project.
- Scheduling and leading technical deep dives
- Document all of the projects scope, requirements, assumptions, and general info using standard templates
- Execute appropriate engagements to the impacted teams for their involvement (e.g., server placements, network connectivity, procurement, etc.)
- Participate in peer reviews of design decisions to ensure accuracy and alignment of best in class design
- Remain engaged at every stage of the project through the end of the warranty period.
- Should be familiar with Big Data Ecosystems. Cassandra, MemSQL, Redis, Cassandra, Hadoop, MapReduce, HDFS, HBase, Hive
- Installing, configuring, testing Big Data ecosystem components.
- Candidate familiar with data architecture including data ingestion, pipeline design, Big Data information architecture.
- Certified in any Data Administrator will be preferred. Experience optimizing ETL workflows will be advantage. Expertise in RHEL is a must and preferred.
- Provide application support by debugging code, fixes, bugs and integrated modules during engineering and integration phase.
- Shell scripting and packaging using rpm, apt-get, yum.
- Able to fix and troubleshoot different stages of rpm build process.
- Automating Tasks with Cron and Crontab files.
Required Skills:
Technical – must demonstrate broad understanding of each item:
- Resiliency and Disaster Recovery concepts and practices in very large enterprise environment.
- Infrastructure - VMWare & X86 platforms
- Datacenter practices and procedures for deploying devices (classes, etc.)
- Network - demonstrated working knowledge of Layers 2 & 3 rules & routing, DNS, VLAN, load balancing (GTM/LTM), fault tolerant network practices
- Security - AD and OU Practices – Groups, Service Accounts, Permissions
- Middleware – Websphere, Apache, HIS, IIS, Siteminder / SSO, MQ, Active Directory
- RDBMS - Oracle, DB2, SQL,
- Big Data - Cassandra, Hadoop, MemSQL
- Monitoring - Tivoli, Splunk, Introscope, AppDynamics
Desired Skills:
Experience in the following areas would be a plus:
- Cassandra, MemSQL, Redis MongoDB or Hadoop (in order of preference)
- Ability to meet / speak with the developers / clients to gain an understanding of their architecture, systems, objectives, etc. and then determine the big data solution most appropriate for their teams
- Hands-on experience working with servers (Linux) and writing scripts (preferably Python) to automate processes
- Development experience in systems with high transactional volume
- Application support experience
- Project management experience
- Red Hat Enterprise Linux and Windows Server certifications and scripting.
