Software Deployment Engineer (Closed)

Our customer is seeking a Software Deployment Engineer.

Responsibilities:

  • Perform software updates and upgrades on customers UMTS networks
  • Perform SW record comparison, health checks and alarm clearing before and after updates
  • Follow processes in place and complete assignments accordingly while minimizing customers impacts

Qualifications:

  • 4+ years of relevant telecom experience
  • The ideal candidate will have experience working with AT&T, Cingular, T-Mobile, Rogers, etc.
  • Ability to work flexible hours including nights and weekends
  • Can read, write and speak English
  • Must have good written and verbal communication skills in English
  • Must have a valid US drivers license
  • Must have good interpersonal skills and ability to work in a team environment
  • Must have a valid work permit/visa for the duration of the project
  • Able to effectively prioritize tasks
  • Good organizational skills
  • Multi-tasker
  • Must be able to follow established processes
  • Must be able to report work progress

Technical Skills:

  • Understands cellular communications basics
  • Understanding of GSM systems
  • Understanding of AXE command structure
  • Understanding of IO access methods (IOG, APG)
  • Can follow operational procedures
  • Can perform backup and dump handling
  • Understanding of AXE HW structure (CP, RP, APT) and APT HW differences (BYB202, BYB501, AXE810)
  • Understanding of different APZ processor types
  • Understands alarm handling, can acknowledge and clear alarms, prioritize based on arm level
  • Understands upgrade/function change methods for AXE
  • Familiar with recovery concepts and handling
  • Understands AXE software structure and correction handling
  • Familiar with upgrade and update packages handling
  • Knowledge of processor (APZ 212 20 to 33, 21233 to 21240) and IO replacement procedures
  • Knowledge of MSC functionality 
  • Knowledge of HLR functionality
  • Knowledge of SCP functionality
  • Can perform call tracing and verification of traffic handling
  • Able to troubleshoot MSC/HLR/SCP problems
  • Knowledge of MSC Data Translations (B-number, Routing data, end-of-selection)
  • Knowledge of HLR Data Translations (Subscriber data, authentication)
  • Knowledge of HLR redundancy handling
  • Knowledge of IN services
  • Knowledge of BTS/BSC operation
  • Can identify and troubleshoot company's base station and switch problems, verify BTS
  • Can verify current SW loading in BTS and load updated SW
  • Can verify GPRS traffic is functioning
  • Can update transcoders SW
  • Has knowledge of APG structure 
  • Has general handling knowledge of APG40, access, files
  • Can configure APG40
  • Can perform APG upgrades/function changes
  • Able to perform recovery actions on APG40, perform backups and restore node
  • Experience with using PCanywhere 
  • Must have basic computer skills (including Word, Excel)
  • OPS scripting knowledge
  • Familiar with remote access tools and access methods, Citrix, SSH, RSG, VPN access
  • Familiar with SHRtool for SW record handling
  • Knowledge of TCP/IP Ethernet transport protocol, addressing, subnets, firewalls
  • Familiar with UNIX file management and commands
