Resident PSE Engineer- Nashville, TN (Closed)

Our customer is seeking a Resident Storage Engineer, a mid-level PS Engineer.

Responsibilities:

  • Ensuring the smooth operations of the storage infrastructure
  • Mentoring and/or supporting additional residents on the account
  • Support daily administration of company's storage infrastructure
  • Become a trusted advisor to the customer and account team
    • Staffing augmentation to customer's storage team
    • The support of a customer’s IT Service Management (ITSM) framework
    • Project planning for tasks of moderate complexity
    • Providing support for storage projects and solutions such as backup and restore, disaster recovery, storage consolidation, data protection, storage performance, etc
    • Optimization such as upgrades, performance monitoring, and system audit tasks
    • Providing customer support including troubleshooting and problem resolution
    • Technical mentoring and guidance to other technical team members
  • Storage Efficiency and Optimization
    • Ensure products are suitably configured for maximum storage efficiency (i.e. product upgrades, performance monitoring, and system audit tasks)
  • Documentation
    • Create and maintain storage infrastructure best practice documentation for the customer
  • Customer Support
    • The Engineer may be the first line of support for operational issues, incidents and defects and therefore must be able to respond quickly, triage problems and implement fixes or escalate to company's Global support
  • Service Operations (ITILv3)
    • Key functions include interfacing with Operations
  • Management and the Service Desk
    • The resident engineer will be responsible for performing storage operations leveraging the following process and Service Levels, and will be responsible for the continuous improvement of these services:

  • Service Asset and Configuration Management
    • Service Validation and Testing

  • Service Design (ITILv3)
    • The resident engineer will use, support, improve and promote the adoption of the following services:
      • Service Catalogue Management
      • Service Level Management
      • Risk Management
      • Capacity Management
      • Availability Management
      • IT Service Continuity Management
      • Information Security Management
      • Compliance Management
      • IT Architecture Management
      • Supplier Management
      • Continual Service Improvement – CSI (ITILv3)
  • Capacity Planning
    • The Resident Engineer will support the CSI strategy and provide metrics and reports to IT management and account teams to ensure every effort is made to improve our performance for the customer. These services include:
      • Service Level Management
      • Service Measurement and Reporting
      • Continual Service Improvement
      • Capacity Planning
      • Review applications and projects for changes in the usage pattern, number of users, significant business process changes or application architecture changes which might affect storage usage
  • Configuration Management
    • Control configuration items and perform Configuration Management status accounting in accordance with the
  • Configuration Management plan
    • Build standard requests for recurring configuration status reports
    • Collect all information about the Configuration Items to be audited, compare to the installed environment categorize all variances into non-registered items and unauthorized changes
    • Report audit findings to the stakeholders of the process
      Asset Management
    • Create, update or delete asset information
    • Reconcile issues with asset records assets
    • Make information available about specific assets
    • Provide new/modified asset information to the Asset Management Database (AMDB)
    • Source data from the Asset Management Database (AMDB) and maintain asset control by managing the
  • Asset management Database (AMDB)
    • Raise asset change requests identifying the surplus assets and send to Configuration Management for subsequent action
  • Change Management
    • Develop implementation plan to incorporate changes detailed in the change request according to the change schedule
    • Check components for availability and completeness
    • Implement changes, check and test to ensure the service improvements anticipated can be realized
    • Overlook all changes, whether active or closed and provide information on the status and/or details of one or many changes
    • Storage available data and storage removed data are provided for updating the storage management datastore
  • Design and Activation
    • Allocate the deployed storage environment as requested by applications and projects
    • Operational storage requirements are received from application and projects detailing the storage requirements
    • Assess these requests and transform into storage worksheet
    • Send activated storage notification to the project/application when storage is available
    • Translate requirements specified in the storage worksheet into design for storage and network components
  • Maintenance and Support
    • When faults are notified by the IT Help desk,  record, classify and investigate in accordance with the guidelines
    • Track faults and defects and close according to the information provided in the maintenance change report
    • Conduct scheduled reviews and trend analysis of problems
    • Faults identified as being possibly due to defects in technology components are received from problem management
    • If, after checking against the supplier's specification, it is determined that components are not performing as specified, confirm the defect, document and send to the appropriate technology supplier for action
    • Receive information about resolved defects from technology suppliers and pass the defect resolution to problem management for implementation

Qualifications:

  • 8+ years of IT operations (preferably a storage related discipline) experience is required;  9 to 11 years of experience is preferred
  • A Bachelor of Science Degree in Electrical Engineering or Computer Science, or equivalent experience is required
  • Networking and Fiber Chanel experience
  • CDA Certified required
  • NCIE SAN Certified (preferred)
  • MCP, MCSA and MCSE Certifications are a plus
  • Demonstrated ability to have completed multiple, complex technical projects
  • Candidates must be proficient in the following areas:
    • Operating Systems: Unix and/or Windows systems administration functions, including domain structures, file systems, disk partitions, mounts, quotas, and general security
    • Networking: Local Area Network technology, specifically Ethernet, IP, DNS and NIS associated daemons, FC switches and directors, Network architectures including hubs, repeaters, bridges, routers, and switches
    • Storage: SAN and/or NAS storage, data replication, storage efficiency and manageability software
    • IT application environment: full spectrum of the technical environment: infrastructure, backups and business applications (Oracle, SAP, MS Exchange, MS SharePoint, MS SQL, etc.)
    • ITIL Service Management
