Release Train Engineer (Closed)

SkillStorm is seeking a Release Train Engineer for our client in Charlotte, NC. Candidates must be able to work on SkillStorm's W2; not a C2C position. EOE, including disability/vets.

Job Description:

  • Responsible for optimizing the flow of epics/features and the value delivered by a smaller Agile Release Train (ART). Coordinates and facilitates the ART ceremonies, manages dependencies across teams in the ART, and provides visibility into the health of epic/feature delivery and the overall program increment. Ensures impediments to epic/feature delivery are resolved quickly and protects the teams from outside disruptions to delivery. Manages financials for the ART and assist with resource planning. Coordinates and facilitates ART ceremonies - e.g. Backlog Refinement, Program Increment (PI) Planning, ART Sync (or PO Sync, Scrum of Scrums), System Demos, Retrospective. In collaboration with the PM, ensures the program has a healthy product/program backlog. Facilitates dependency management/risk management/impediment removal for the ART. Promotes/facilitates communication and collaboration within the ART to support value delivery and PI commitments. Responsible for providing status updates and reporting pertaining to ART plans/ delivery/ timelines/ impediments to stakeholders and leadership. Measures ART delivery, maturity, and performance and reviews the metrics with the ART to identify improvement opportunities. Individual Contributor
  • Release Train Engineer (RTE) is a servant leader and coach for the Agile Release Train (ART). Facilitate the ART events and processes and assist the teams in delivering value. Manage and optimize the flow of work through the ART while fostering team accountability. Ensures that the team maintains focus on quality and continuous delivery of business value. Responsible for facilitating the Scrum events and artifacts to maintain cadence and synchronization on the train and the enterprise. Build a trusting and safe environment where problems can be raised and resolved.

Responsibilities:

  • Establish program level cadence and drive program level ceremonies ensuring the appropriate level of program governance to achieve commitments (e.g. PI Planning, PI Demo, Scrum of Scrums, release train retrospectives etc.)
  • Ensure coordination of program execution through defining cross-team dependencies ensuring a well-defined program schedule that meets organizational objectives
  • Summarize team objectives into Program PI Objectives and publish them for visibility and transparency
  • Establish and communicate the annual calendars for Iterations and Program Increments (PIs)
  • Facilitate PI Planning readiness by fostering a Continuous Exploration process which drives the synthesis of a Vision, a Roadmap, and Backlogs, and through Pre- and Post-PI Planning meetings
  • Facilitate the PI planning event
  • Committed to driving relentless improvement through Inspect and Adapt workshops, and assess the agility level of the ART and coach for ART growth
  • Facilitate PI Planning readiness by fostering a Continuous Exploration process which drives the synthesis of a Vision, a Roadmap, and Backlogs, and through Pre- and Post-PI Planning meetings
  • Lean Agile leaders are lifelong learners, the RTE must be aligned to the enterprise for organizational practices, Communities of Practice CoP.
  • 10+ years of experience leading Information Technology projects
  • 7+ years leading large scale transformation programs, involving business process and change,
  • 3+ years delivering large scale IT solutions leveraging Agile or Scaled Agile Framework (SAFe)
  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited program in Information Systems, Computer Science, Business Information Systems or related field or equivalent work experience
  • SAFe SM & RTE certification
  • Proficient with Jira, Confluence
