Network / System Engineer V (Closed)

SkillStorm is seeking a Design Technical Lead for our client in Pennington, New Jersey OR Charlotte, North Carolina OR Richardson, Texas. Candidates must be able to work on SkillStorm's W2; not a C2C position. EOE, including disability/vets.

Description:

  • The Design Technical Lead (DTL) is viewed as a subject matter expert that is expect to translate application requirements into a thorough infrastructure design and helps drive the delivery and implementation of such infrastructure. This position is to support a large variety of efforts related primarily to Data Center consolidation, Not Permitted Technology remediation and multiple initiative & transformation projects. The DTL leads and/or participates in the design, development, and implementation of complex system engineering activities involving cross-functional technical support, hosting and data center capabilities. Responsible for components of complex engineering and/or analytical tasks and activities. Establishes input/output processes and working parameters for hardware/software compatibility, coordination of subsystems design, and integration of total system. Able to provide and communicate complex technology solutions across differing audiences including technical, managerial, business executives, and/or vendors. Is responsible for multiple, complex projects; directs activities of teams related to special initiatives or operations. Leads the resolution process for complex problems where analysis of situations or data requires an in-depth evaluation of various factors. Exercises judgment within broadly defined practices and policies in selecting methods, techniques, and evaluation criterion for obtaining results.

The DTL responsibilities include:

  • Responsible for coordination and execution of engineering and technical aspects of each assigned project.
  • Scheduling and leading technical deep dives
  • Participate and lead in requirements gathering exercises
  • Document all of the projects scope, requirements, assumptions, and general info using standard templates
  • Responsible for delivery and approval tracking of the official design artifacts used to fulfill the infrastructure build of each project
  • Execute appropriate engagements to the impacted teams for their involvement (e.g., server placements, network connectivity, procurement, etc.)
  • Participate in peer reviews of design decisions to ensure accuracy and alignment of best in class design
  • Produce weekly status reports of all project activity to direct manager
  • Input accurate time keeping against each project
  • DTL remains engaged at every stage of the project through the end of the warranty period.
  • Forecasting – provides the resource manager with forecast estimates for expected project durations

Non-Technical:

  • Clear written & verbal communication skills
  • Ability to estimate durations and meet deadlines
  • Ability to work on at least 4 design projects in parallel

Technical:

  • must demonstrate broad understanding of each item:
  • Infrastructure - VMWare & X86 platforms
  • Datacenter practices and procedures for deploying devices (classes, etc.)
  • Network - demonstrated working knowledge of Layers 2 & 3 rules & routing, DNS, VLAN, load balancing (GTM/LTM), fault tolerant network practices
  • Security - AD and OU Practices – Groups, Service Accounts, Permissions
  • Security - SSO / AD / Network / PCI Requirements
  • Middleware – WebSphere, Apache, HIS, IIS, Siteminder / SSO, MQ, Active Directory
  • Basic understanding on programming languages (e.g., Java, C#, Perl, etc.)
  • RDBMS - Oracle, DB2, SQL
  • Big Data - Cassandra, Hadoop
  • Monitoring - Tivoli, Splunk, AppDynamics

Experience in the following areas would be a plus:

  • Development experience in systems with high transactional volume
  • Application support experience
  • DevOps experience with Ansible Tower, XL Release, Jenkins
  • Container technology experience in RedHat OpenShift, Docker/Kubernetes
  • Project management experience
