Linux DBA / Engineer (Closed)

SkillStorm is seeking a Linux DBA / Engineer for our client in Charlotte, NC. Candidates must be able to work on SkillStorm's W2; not a C2C position. EOE, including disability/vets.

Job Description:

  • We are looking for someone strong in Linux administration (preferably with NoSQL or any DB experience) to support our modern database infrastructure running on Linux platform.
  • The candidate will become intimately familiar with SingleStore (FKA MemSQL) Distribited SQL Database and the Replicate software (equivalent to Oracle's Golden Gate software) that allows us to replicate, filter, and transform data from one database to another database.
  • The Database Administrator / Engineer will design, install, upgrade, maintain, troubleshoot the database powering bankofameirca.com, Merill's 401k platform, etc.
  • Assist developers in making changes to the schema
  • Provide on-call 24x 7 operational support for the Production MemSQL databases
  • Build relations with stakeholders to understand business needs. Resolves diverse database performance and capacity issues, and replication and other distributed data issues. Competent to work at experienced technical level of all phases of database administration activities. Assists application administrators and developers to find solutions as needed. A wide degree of creativity and latitude is expected. Familiar with standard concepts, practices, and procedures within a particular field.

Desired Skills:

  • Experience in the following areas would be a plus:
  • Cassandra, MemSQL, Redis MongoDB or Hadoop (in order of preference)
  • Ability to meet / speak with the developers / clients to gain an understanding of their architecture, systems, objectives, etc. and then determine the big data solution most appropriate for their teams
  • Hands-on experience working with servers (Linux) and writing scripts (preferably Python) to automate processes
  • Development experience in systems with high transactional volume
  • Application support experience
  • Project management experience
  • Red Hat Enterprise Linux and Windows Server certifications and scripting.
