Database Developer / Big Data Engineer (Closed)
SkillStorm is seeking a Database Developer / Big Data Engineer for our client in Charlotte, NC OR Jersey City, NJ. Candidates must be able to work on SkillStorm's W2; not a C2C position. EOE, including disability/vets.
Job Description:
- This position will be playing a versatile hands on role in applying Database, Infrastructure and Data engineering concepts in getting data integration projects accomplished.
- Should have good expertise in Shell Scripting and have good understanding of Big Data engineering technologies such as Kafka, Spark, Scala which are currently utilized in this environment.
- This role actively participates architectural aspects in database design and development, review, tune and support critical production issues.

- PowerShell scripting( Windows) knowledge.
- Deployment automation implementation.

Essential Functions:
- Work effectively with Leads and product owners to define & clarify requirements, assignment priorities, perform detailed analysis, and develop robust & maintainable solutions meeting business requirements
- Will be involved in Deployment and Release automations involving artifacts from Database, Linux and Big data technologies.
- Will be involved in designing and implementing Data security methodologies across Oracle and Big Data environments.
- Proactively initiate & contribute in system improvements and innovations.
- Provide support to troubleshoot and resolve technical & performance issues in production environment.
- Review the database designs, code, and test plans of other developers and provide recommendations for improvement or optimizations
- Perform basic database administration activities for lower and production (on demand) environments including; Job monitoring, release deployment, basic configuration, process monitoring, and database backup & restore.
- Exposure to good SDLC process and adaptability to the existing process.
- Work and communicate effectively with management and members to clarify needs and priorities.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, or STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Math) majors, or related experience
- 5-7 years of DBA experience including Data warehouse design & development.
- 3 years of Oracle Database Development skillsets
- Expert level scripting experience in shell.
- Strong technical and communication skills.
- Ability to think analytically, plan for future growth of systems/tools, troubleshoot and solve database issues.
- Desire and ability to work as part of a team with minimal supervision in a results-oriented, fast-paced dynamic environment.
Preferred:
- Hands on implementation and development
- PowerShell scripting( Windows) knowledge.
- Deployment automation implementation.
- Replacement of current resource, within 7+5 forecast, channel and initiative target.
